"No life is so happy and so pleasant as the life of the well-govern'd angler." - Izaak Walton
"To go fishing is the chance to wash one's soul with pure air, with the rush of the brook, or with the shimmer of sun on blue water. It brings meekness and inspiration from the decency of nature, charity toward tackle-makers, patience toward fish, a mockery of profits and egos, a quieting of hate, a rejoicing that you do not have to decide a darned thing until next week. And it is discipline in the equality of men - for all men are equal before fish."
- Herbert Hoover
"No life is so happy and so pleasant as the life of the well-govern'd angler." - Izaak Walton
"The great charm of fly-fishing is that we are always learning." - Theodore Gordon
"Game fish are to valuable to be caught only once" - Lee Wulff
"All Americans believe that they are born fishermen. For a man to admit a distaste for fishing would be like denouncing mother-love or hating moonlight." - John Steinbeck
"There are always greater fish than you have caught, always the lure of greater task and achievement, always the inspiration to seek, to endure, to find. - Zane Gray
"Rivers and the inhabitants of the watery elements are made for wise men to contemplate and for fools to pass by without consideration." - Izaac Walton
In our family, there was no clear line between religion and fly fishing. We lived at the junction of great trout rivers in western Montana, and our father was a Presbyterian minister and a fly fisherman who tied his own flies and taught others. He told us about Christ's disciples being fishermen, and we were to assume, as my brother and I did, that all first-class fishermen on the Sea of Galilee were fly fishermen and that John, the favorite, was a dry-fly fisherman. - Norman Maclean
"My Biggest worry is that when I'm dead and gone, my wife will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it." - Koos Brandt
"I am not against golf, since I cannot suspect it keeps armies of the unworthy from discovering trout." - Paul O'Neil
